Fractures of the Tibia with an Intact Fibula

In the past few decades of the business, people’s thinking and appreciation of the role of the intact fibula in isolated fractures of the tibia have greatly progressed. This is generally because of the tendency of the secluded tibial fracture supported by an intact fibula to bend into varus.

We have also witnessed that several changes have taken place in our clinical protocol. Presently we pay much higher attention to the particulars in the fracture configuration, to its location when the fibula is intact, and to the overall stability of the particular fracture. Design of the orthopedic instruments like a functional brace has also been developed in a much straighter way than the more anatomical design with a natural varus curve. The brace has proved very helpful in upholding good angular posture in case of very complicated fractures.
